Downloadable software These downloadable materials are partly independent software, but mostly are constituents of larger multimedia software packages being developed at the moment. Although they mustn't be considered finished, they are fully functional. In their present form, they are freeware, thus feel free to download, copy, duplicate and even distribute them (provided that you distribute them without changing them or charging for the copy in any way). Our downloadable software are normal Windows applications,
they have been developed with Visual Basic 4.0 in three versions: for
Windows 3.x (16 bit), for Windows 95/98 (32 bit) and for Windows 2000,
respectively. Their use requires the presence of several DLL and OCX
files (generally in the Windows\System subdirectory). If you are already
using similar Visual Basic programs, you may have all of these files
installed on your computer. However, you will probably have to install
these files now. In this case, it seems to be a good idea to install,
once and for all, the set of files you may need in the future for running
any KaleidoVox software. The three sets of setup disks below include
everything you may need. Just select the set according to your Windows
version, download the files into a temporary directory, decompress them
(they come in ZIP format) and run setup.exe.
Exercises on Hungarian grammar (and vocabulary) (On the basis of the textbook: "Halló, itt Magyarország!") The "Halló!" programs are some components of the electronic supplement being developed to a textbook of Hungarian for foreigners (Erdős József-Prileszky Csilla: Halló, itt Magyarország! - Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, 1992-2001.) at the moment. Actually, they are an interactive - and mostly amplified - version of the grammatical and other written exercises of the textbook. In spite of the fact that they have been prepared on the basis of this book, they can be used as a complementary material with any other textbook of Hungarian as a foreign language, for independent learning the same as for learning with a teacher (whether in group or not), since they give quite a complete picture of the system of grammatical phenomena (both forms and functions) from the very elementary to the upper intermediate level. The interactive exercise sets corresponding to the lessons of the textbook will be included here step by step. (The exercises for 18 lessons of the book have been made - with the name of "Szabad" and in both 16 and 32 bit versions - earlier. They remain available at the address: "http://www.bme-tk.bme.hu/kaleido".) For the time being, the following units are available in the renewed 32 bit version (for Windows95 and later, with a special set for Windows XP):
MultiTest Hungarian is a multiple choice test program (focusing mainly on grammar, but partly on vocabulary, too). It has a database with over 350 test units (intermediate/advanced level) and two functions: "Practice" and "Test". In "Practice" mode, users can select the level of difficulty (1 to 3) and the grammatical topic. (E.g. the use of the subjunctive at level 3.) In "Test", users can set the number of units included in the test set, and the time (in seconds) allowed for each test item. (E.g. a test set of 30, with 30 seconds for each item.)
Verba is a verb conjugator software that gives all the finite and non-finite forms of more than 15.000 Hungarian verbs. If requested to conjugate a verb (or another word with the formal characteristics of a Hungarian derived verb) that is not included in its database, the program gives the possible forms of this supposed verb on the basis of the formal points of reference the user has offered. Nevertheless, it indicates that the "verb" in question does not appear in its verb list.
Some of the most important modal auxiliaries (akar, kell, szokott, tud) and the auxiliary "fog" (future). The task consists of completing short passages with the selected auxiliary focusing on the word order in different sentence types (affirmative, negative, neutral, emphatic). See in Auxi: "Help"--> "(Modal) auxiliaries and word order".
The exercise gets practised the Hungarian adverbs of place with demonstrative pronouns (ezen az asztalon, ebben a szekrényben, az előtt az ajtó előtt, e felé a híd felé, azokra a székekre, ezek közül a könyvek közül, etc.) The task consists of completing nouns randomly selected from a list of about 100 items with the correct form of the demonstrative pronouns (ez/az) and with the suffix or postposition corresponding to the relation of place indicated by an icon, also selected at random.
EJE (Ejercicios de gramática espańola) are interactive supplementary materials to a BME textbook (Erdős József: Spanyol nyelvtani gyakorlatok), that can be used independently too; several units of the book in the form of independent software.
A conjugator software using a database of about 12.000 Spanish verbs. If requested to conjugate a verb that is not included in its database, the program gives the possible forms on the basis of the formal points of reference offered by the infinitive. Interactions (copy-paste capability) with the common Windows applications: Ms Office, etc.
Multiple choice tests (focusing mainly on grammar, but partly on vocabulary, too). A database with over 500 test units (intermediate level). Two functions: "Practice" and "Test". In "Practice" mode, users can select the level of difficulty (1 to 3) and the grammatical topic. (E.g. the use of the subjonctive at level 3.) In "Test", users can set the number of units included in the test set, and the time (in seconds) allowed for each test item. (E.g. a test set of 30, with 30 seconds for each item.)
Multiple choice tests (focusing mainly on grammar, but partly on vocabulary, too). A database with over 650 test units (intermediate level). Two functions: "Practice" and "Test". In "Practice" mode, users can select the level of difficulty (1 to 3) and the grammatical topic. (E.g. the use of tenses at level 3.) In "Test", users can set the number of units included in the test set, and the time (in seconds) allowed for each test item. (E.g. a test set of 30, with 20 seconds for each item.)
